I decided to create a tribute to the guitar that players don’t just hear; they feel. Built around the iconic single cut shape, this artwork leans into what guitarists chase in a great Les Paul: weight, warmth, and the kind of sustain that hangs in the air long after the note is struck. It’s tone on the wall - the instrument as a voice, a tool, and a lifelong obsession.
Handwritten marks and musical fragments surround the body like a player’s margin… notes: quick reminders, the language of practice rooms and late-night sessions. The palette and contrast evoke that vintage glow guitarists associate with a well-loved classic: bold, honest, and built for rock-and-roll dynamics: clean sparkle, edge-of-breakup bite, and full-throated roar.
For the guitarist, this piece is about feel. The grip of the neck, the push of an amp, and the romance of a legendary era.
Barry Sears is primarily a painter working with oils and mixed media. He returned to his artistic journey in 2022 whilst winding down his former career in Finance. He received his formal training at the Milan Art Institute. His process is deeply experimental, building vibrant imagery from chaotic beginnings and favouring striking, non-traditional colour palettes over realism. His layered techniques create depth and intrigue, while his work conveys a sense of inspired transformation, finding beauty and order within expressive bursts of colour and the ever-shifting play of light and shade.
