About this artwork
Living with chronic illness has changed the way I see the world. After decades of heath challenges, more than 15 surgeries, and an open-heart surgery, I learned that healing is rarely a straight line. There were times when I felt broken apart, uncertain of what came next. Painting became the place where I could gather those scattered pieces and make sense of them.
In this work, I imagine a floating garden built from fragments of memory, resilience,… wonder, and hope. The plants and flowers seem impossible, yet they thrive together in their own strange and beautiful ecosystem. In many ways, they mirror my own journey. What once felt chaotic or difficult has become part of something vibrant and alive.
The bright pink background represents joy- not the kind that comes from an easy life, but the kind that emerge after you’ve walked through hard things and choose to remain open to beauty anyway. This painting embraces the unexpected path.
Bianca Youngers is a self-taught painter based in Portland, Oregon, working primarily with acrylic on canvas and drawing on her background in Theatre Arts and visual storytelling. Her layered, abstract technique fuses organic forms with atmospheric spaces, informed by landscapes, botanical imagery, and geological formations, yielding compositions that balance the dreamlike with the grounded. Her paintings evoke spaces of reflection and wonder, inviting viewers to journey through grief, healing, and transformation while discovering curiosity, connection, and hope.
