About this artwork
This painting is part of an ongoing series exploring what I call “the place in between”-a world that exists somewhere between memory and imagination, grief, and healing, the seen and the unseen. My paintings are inspired by emotional landscapes I visit while processing life’s joys, losses, and uncertainties. They are places where gravity loosens its grip, time slows down, and nature becomes a guide.
I created this work during a period when the world… felt especially heavy. I found myself longing for the simplicity of childhood-the comfort of being called home for dinner, wandering through neighborhoods and yards, believing that everything would somehow be okay. Rather than painting a literal landscape, I painted an emotional one.
It is a world where I remember sitting down for the comfort of dinner with my family and hiding my peas under the lip of my plate. Even though I hid the peas I knew I was safe.
Bianca Youngers is a self-taught painter based in Portland, Oregon, working primarily with acrylic on canvas and drawing on her background in Theatre Arts and visual storytelling. Her layered, abstract technique fuses organic forms with atmospheric spaces, informed by landscapes, botanical imagery, and geological formations, yielding compositions that balance the dreamlike with the grounded. Her paintings evoke spaces of reflection and wonder, inviting viewers to journey through grief, healing, and transformation while discovering curiosity, connection, and hope.
