About this artwork
What fascinates me about Lily of the Valley is the impossible feeling that these tiny bells must somehow produce sound.
Standing before them, I wondered whether we are simply too large, too loud, too distracted to hear it. Perhaps closer to the ground — to an ant, a fox, or the hidden creatures of the forest — these flowers are quietly ringing all the time.
Silent Bells was created from real Convallaria majalis specimens using ultra-high-resolution… scannography. Against the deep black background, the white blossoms seem suspended like tiny lanterns, or notes in a forgotten melody.
From afar, the piece is calm and architectural. Up close, it becomes intimate, delicate, and strangely alive — a meditation on quietness, fragility, and the possibility that nature may still be speaking in frequencies we have forgotten how to hear.

Botanica Lumen is the collaborative studio of Anna Surdacka and Luis Fernandez, bringing together botanical artistry, optical imaging, and material precision. Anna’s instinct for living form and natural composition meets Luis’s background in optics, physics, and ultra-high-resolution imaging, shaped through years developing industrial scanning systems.
Together, they created an original scannographic practice that captures real botanical specimens with extraordinary clarity, tonal depth, and presence.
