About this artwork
In 1993, I created this work, "The Passerby," using mixed media on canvas. Initially, I intended to paint a face that would fill the canvas, but ultimately, I played with profile and frontal views to create, depending on the perspective, one or two figures, intertwined with one another. The person in the background smiles as they watch the other person, seen in profile, pass by. It is a work that is both spontaneous (at the beginning and at times)…
and deliberate, especially in its second part. Each texture, blending sand and found objects, provides a tactile depth that invites the viewer to touch. This semi-abstract painting evokes a mixture of emotions, vibrant with energy and mystery, creating an intense and captivating presence.
