About this artwork
The painting 'Evening Star' depicts a young girl emerging from a dark background, warmly illuminated by a ball of light. Her face and body are gently illuminated by it. Her eyes are closed, and her hands are clasping the light source. This creates a strong contrast between light and dark.
The warm light refers to a symptom of my traumatic experiences during my childhood and adolescence. Daylight, or rather a certain mood of daylight, triggers me.… I don't know why. In any case, it feels threatening to me. In this image, the light appears warm and radiates security.
Claudia Kaak is a painter with a background in art education, specializing in figurative-realistic oil painting. She uses her own photographs and film stills as the basis for hyperrealistic techniques, often characterized by intense attention to detail. In her works, she explores emotional, psychological, and autobiographical themes; she aims to break taboos, stimulate reflection, and deeply move viewers by making vulnerability, healing, and the invisibility of emotional burdens visible. She is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Poets and Artists, and the International Guild of Realism. Her works are represented in national and international collections.
