For this work, I chose Payne's Grey—my favorite color for softening contrasts yet still being dominant. The gorilla appears to me mischievous, full, and heavy, with a gaze that hovers between questioning and knowing. Perhaps it's precisely this human quality in his expression that fascinates me so much—a gaze full of quiet certainty, just as animals are.
