About this artwork
Far away. Close-up. Zoom. I wanted to show feminine power and purity, but also incorporate a playful lightness. The woman in the rice field—half-naked, working—appears stimulating and vibrant, even though (or perhaps because) I placed the forms imprecisely and freely. It's the small details, not realized in great detail, that lend the picture tension and, at the same time, softness. For me, it's always a question of finding the right moment: knowing…
when the last brushstroke has been made, when enough is enough, when the work is finished. More precision is always possible. However, zoomed in and out of focus, too.
The plywood panels that I paint are not always flat. The suspension with visible screw holes at the corners (mostly at the upper corners, sometimes also at the lower ones) is a deliberate detail that gives my works a decorative, stable and at the same time pragmatic look.
