About this artwork
Giraffes are such elegant, beautiful creatures that it is always a delight for us to stop and photograph them. This morning on the way back to camp we came across this beautiful group out in the open. We spent a good deal of time with them and tried to photograph them with the aim of showcasing their towering elegant forms while doing justice to their beauty.
The giraffe that was closest to us was quite curious as to what we were up to. At the same… time, two other giraffes were busy browsing for some juicy leaves at a distance. This scene was a perfect example of diminishing scale perspective. The curious giraffe looked enormous and dwarfed a tree between its legs, while the left most giraffe was in turn dwarfed by a tree! What struck us further was how the three trees seemed to visually be a mirror inversion of the giraffes: tallest giraffe with shortest tree and shortest giraffe with tallest tree!
