About this artwork
A magnificent male Southern White Rhino pauses during its purposeful walk, to inspect a tiny shrub in its path, at Solio Game Reserve in Kenya.
This photograph was made on a gorgeous autumn morning where the sun had broken through after a whole night of rain. We were stationed on a plain hoping to frame some rhinos against Mount Kenya in the backdrop. This rhino did not oblige with that composition but instead walked parallel to where we were to… enable this composition. We had spent most of the morning till then with our eyes fixed to the viewfinder of our cameras. However, after this moment, we just sat back and took it all in with just our senses. We truly understood the meaning of the saying 'Stop and smell the roses!"
We tried to get as low as possible and used a long focal length to accentuate the size of the rhino, while giving the viewer an almost worm’s eye view of it!
