About this artwork
This piece explores the ancient concept of heaven's connection to earth - the perfect circles at the top representing the celestial realm gradually transforming as they descend, dissolving into earthly matter below. The woodprint technique allows me to capture this philosophical transition through the physical breakdown of form.
The carved concentric rings begin with geometric perfection - the eternal, unchanging nature of the heavens - but as they… move downward, they fragment and blur into organic, terrestrial textures. Those fluid pools of deep blues and burgundies become the earthbound reality where celestial order meets material chaos.
I find this transformation deeply meditative - watching how the disciplined circles surrender their divine geometry to become something more human, more tactile. The wood grain and ink behavior create this natural dissolution that feels both inevitable and sacred, like watching cosmic principles made manifest through simple materials.
