I created this ceramic vessel as part of my Strata series, where I explore time, memory, and inner archaeology. Its form reminded me of a planet with a ring - Saturn, a symbol of cycles, boundaries, and the passage of time. The circular belt around the body feels like a mark of orbit, both cosmic and earthly.
The vessel is made from chamotte clay using a mixed technique: first shaped on the wheel, then finished by hand. It went through two firings,… with the final glaze firing at 1050°C.
For me, this piece embodies the way time leaves its traces - through rotation, repetition, and imperfection. It stands as both an object of memory and a sculptural presence, suitable for display indoors or in a garden.
Elena Vostryakova, a Russian-born artist based in Vienna, works primarily with ceramics and sculpture, drawing from a rich background in visual arts fueled by hands-on exploration. She employs fluid, organic forms and a dynamic interplay of spontaneity and careful craftsmanship, blending the immediacy of the present with echoes of ancient history. Her art embodies transformation and movement, inviting viewers to reflect on memory, time, and the enduring pulse of human experience, all while evoking a sense of liberation and wonder.
