About this artwork
On the shore, a calm and patient father holds his daughter's hand and accompanies her towards the water. The child still hesitates: the sea is vast, moving, unknown.
In this simple scene, the child learns to overcome a fear in order to enter the world. The sea, the first territory of adventure, is here a space where confidence is built step by step.
The color palette complements this experience. The deep blues of the water mingle with the bright… flashes of the waves and the shifting reflections of light on the shore. The visible, sometimes thick, brushstrokes make the surface of the sea vibrate; the eddies, splashes, and reflections convey the instability of the water as much as the emotion of the moment.
This image evokes a universal gesture: that by which a parent accompanies their child towards the unknown, offering them protection, courage, and freedom.
Émilie Vas primarily uses oil paint, watercolor, and drawing, incorporating a rich cultural journey through France, Italy, and Asia into her artistic practice. She employs classical techniques, layering light and shadow, while emphasizing the materiality of the medium, the interplay of solid and void, and contrasts of saturated colors. Through her works, she conveys the fragile and unpredictable beauty of existence, the complexity of the human soul, and the pure hope of childhood.
