About this artwork
Presented from July 30 to August 12, 2017, at the group exhibition Il Filo Rosso, organized by Viviana Cazzato in Specchia, Italy, this work explores the links between painting and music. I wanted to transpose the rhythm of Ella Fitzgerald's jazz into it. The gesture then became a phrase, the color a harmony.
The intersecting, forking lines are like improvisations, giving rise to opportunities. In the center, the sign reads "Out of Nowhere." It… doesn't guide, but evokes those moments when a direction appears unexpectedly.
In this tension between structure and freedom, poetry emerges unexpectedly… out of nowhere.

Émilie Vas primarily uses oil paint, watercolor, and drawing, incorporating a rich cultural journey through France, Italy, and Asia into her artistic practice. She employs classical techniques, layering light and shadow, while emphasizing the materiality of the medium, the interplay of solid and void, and contrasts of saturated colors. Through her works, she conveys the fragile and unpredictable beauty of existence, the complexity of the human soul, and the pure hope of childhood.
