Interpretation of Dreams of Lost Time
The photograph from the beach in Lekeitio carries within it the quiet yet inexorable movement of the tide. The landscape is shaped and dissolved in rhythm with the sea, just as memories and experiences are formed within the human psyche. The tide becomes an image of time itself: always in motion, never fully graspable, leaving traces that are soon erased.
The title Dreams of Lost Time points inward, toward… a psychological and existential experience of time rather than a linear one.
Life’s complexity and fragility are mirrored in the transience of the landscape. The forms of the shore are beautiful precisely because they are ephemeral. In the same way, the human inner world holds both what has been and what has not yet taken shape. The longing for what once was—or for what may yet come—becomes an expression of our fundamental humanity: the desire for coherence, meaning, and duration in a world that is in constant flux.
