About this artwork
In 8 Hours Protections! I fuse my love for 1980s sci-fi cinema with the raw, unpredictable world of the Florida wetlands. Inspired by Ellen Ripley, my central character stands ready for battle — armed with a futuristic rifle and, ironically, a can of OFF! spray elevated to heroic status. I wanted to play with contrasts: survival horror against everyday Florida reality, fear against humor, advertising against myth.
The blurred alien figure in the… background adds tension and ambiguity — is it real, imagined, or just another threat lurking in our minds? Through bold colors and vintage pulp energy, I reframe a classic sci-fi moment into a contemporary reflection on how we protect ourselves, from mosquitoes to the unknown.
For me, the phrase “8 Hours Protections!” becomes both a slogan and a question: how much safety are we actually buying, and how much are we inventing?
Ettore Bechis, a Turin-born artist working in the United States, expresses his artistic language through painting, set design, and tattoos, combining pop culture experiences with a practical background. He uses a mix of techniques such as acrylics, textures, and layering, alternating figurative realism, graphic energy, and impactful theatrical compositions. His works explode with intense colors, contrasts, and iconic references to rock and pop culture. With a fusion of irony and emotional depth, he seeks to convey energy, identity, and contemporaneity, engaging the viewer in a dynamic and immediate visual narrative.
