About this artwork
In Greetings from Florida, I place Batman in the middle of a Florida beach as a storm brews, rain cutting through the sky and a hurricane looming. I wanted his brooding presence to clash with the chaotic energy around him: there he sits on a beach chair, irritated yet composed, gripping a cocktail as if forcing a moment of calm in the madness.
The pop-art palette amplifies the irony — bright colors, bold contrasts, and above him the cheerful slogan,… “Greetings from Florida, the land of sunshine.” That contradiction is the heart of the piece.
Through this painting, I explore the tension between heroism and human frustration, between Florida’s promise of sun and its unpredictable reality. Even Batman, the eternal symbol of control and resilience, must surrender to the storm — and endure it with a drink in hand.
Ettore Bechis, a Turin-born artist working in the United States, expresses his artistic language through painting, set design, and tattoos, combining pop culture experiences with a practical background. He uses a mix of techniques such as acrylics, textures, and layering, alternating figurative realism, graphic energy, and impactful theatrical compositions. His works explode with intense colors, contrasts, and iconic references to rock and pop culture. With a fusion of irony and emotional depth, he seeks to convey energy, identity, and contemporaneity, engaging the viewer in a dynamic and immediate visual narrative.
