When human suffering occurs on an incomprehensible scale, we often become numb or overwhelmed by its magnitude, making it difficult to sympathize. But we can empathize with one person’s agony. This piece suggests the plight of one of over 32,000 migrants who have drown or gone missing crossing the Mediterranean Sea since 2014. It is a story of being alone and afraid in the vast, dark water. It is a portrait of desperation and struggle; of risking… everything to escape the intolerable. It is a portrait of one of the thousands who die cruelly every year caught between despair and pursuing the simple dream that there is something better.
I hope to convey in this small portrait a quintessential struggle. It is not just a human against the remorseless cruelty of the water, but of being utterly alone, knowing there is no rescue, of not having had the opportunity to realize the smallest of dreams, and ending among so many others as a faceless number on a chart.

She employs both classical and innovative techniques, excelling in powerful bronze portraits and expressive bas-reliefs that reveal her love of storytelling and allegory. Her works dance with humor, duplicity, and raw emotion, inviting the viewer to reflect, smile, and be moved by the intricate interplay of vulnerability and resilience.
