About this artwork
The painting Backflash was created using a mixed media technique. First the picture ground, a wooden plate, was modeled with thin paper and paste. Here, a lively picture ground full of folds, with a textile appearance and a haptically exciting surface was designed. The folds of the paper, in turn, create an interplay of light and shadow that allows the image to appear again and again from every angle and under different lighting conditions. After…
modeling the surface, expressive markings were placed on the canvas and a connection between the smooth wooden surface and the modeled ground was created with paint.
The work on this picture was very intuitively inspired by the artist's memories of her time in Barcelona. One action leads to the next, a flow of reactions leads to an overall picture.
The picture is provided with a glued-on hanging system and can be mounted directly on the wall.

« For me, a painting is a sensual interplay of structures, colors, and shapes, taking into account the materiality of canvas and painting medium. »
