About this artwork
Two female torsos stacked in a single vertical column. But look closer: in each, the breasts and buttocks coexist on the same side. Cecconello breaks down the body like the Cubists broke down the face—what you can normally only see by walking around the figure is here rendered simultaneously in a single glance.
It's not a formal game as an end in itself. It's a reflection on the continuity of the female body: seduction and generation, the exposed… and the hidden, fused into a single form that multiplies upon itself. Duplication becomes the subject—the body that generates other bodies, ad infinitum.
Limited edition of 3 copies, numbered and signed by the artist.

Gastone Cecconello (Vercelli, 1942) has been working for over sixty years in painting, sculpture, and mixed media. His visual language—based on the figure of the hominid as a metaphor for the human condition—arises from the dialogue between matter and symbol, between the archaic and the contemporary.
He has exhibited in over one hundred solo shows in Italy and abroad: Columbia University in New York, Staatsuniversität Hamburg, the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna, and Galerie Man Arte in Paris. Critic Pierre Restany has written about his work. His career is documented in the monograph Alle origini del mito (Silvana Editoriale, 2012).
At over eighty years old, he still works every day in his studio in Salussola, Biella.
