About this artwork
Five eggs in a row. A watching eye. A child's face. Four figures locked in their compartments. And in the center, carved in chalk, the word: REBUS.
Cecconello constructs a puzzle that doesn't ask to be solved—it asks to be inhabited. Each element is a clue: birth, the gaze, innocence, the anonymous multitude. Arranged in columns like the lines of a sentence, they compose something that everyone interprets in their own way. The title itself, with… its question mark, admits that not even the artist possesses the solution.
Limited edition of 3 copies, numbered and signed by the artist.
This sculpture belongs to the Plaster Cycle — a series of archetypal forms shaped over decades.
Gastone Cecconello (Vercelli, 1942) has been working for over sixty years in sculpture, painting, and mixed media. Critic Pierre Restany has written about his work.

Gastone Cecconello (Vercelli, 1942) has been working for over sixty years in painting, sculpture, and mixed media. His visual language—based on the figure of the hominid as a metaphor for the human condition—arises from the dialogue between matter and symbol, between the archaic and the contemporary.
He has exhibited in over one hundred solo shows in Italy and abroad: Columbia University in New York, Staatsuniversität Hamburg, the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna, and Galerie Man Arte in Paris. Critic Pierre Restany has written about his work. His career is documented in the monograph Alle origini del mito (Silvana Editoriale, 2012).
At over eighty years old, he still works every day in his studio in Salussola, Biella.
