About this artwork
It is made to look like it is painted on a stretcher. It is not. It is made out of paper. Works on paper are classified as drawings; this is why I have listed this work as one, despite the application of acrylics.
There is a certain irony in making a drawing look like a painting on a stretcher. Perhaps we are used interpreting things this way. Maybe it is a painting, not a drawing. Form matters because it works. It is of secondary importance which… category it fits.
We do live in an age where history drives our works.
The climate crisis, the use of recycled paper, makes us appreciate our relationship with material. Our culture is gradually turning from materialistic and consumerist, to one that questions it's relation to the physical world we live in. Pollution has helped us doubt that man is in control. Crossing lines may be hard to judge, but it certainly can not go unnoticed.
Beige brings harmony to all colours, secondary ones included. Design & drawing determine movement.
George-A. Makridis, a painter and digital artist, was initially drawn to the canvas by his mechanic father. He adeptly manipulates oil, water-based mediums, and digital interfaces, crafting works that defy conventional forms while experimenting with collage and mixed media. His connection to the environment, physical and spiritual, interweaves his artwork, using instinct rather than philosophy. His work reflects an earnest attempt at bonding with the world, hinting at a quest for goodness, an ephemeral touch we strive for yet never truly grasp.
