About this artwork
This work stems from a reflection on breathing as a generative act. Form emerges through subtraction, like a silhouette held between light and matter, where the gesture is not visible but leaves a visible pressure on the surface.
The color works through opposing fields: a dark, compact presence, crossed by a luminous line that doesn't guide the gaze, but suspends it. The light slides over the thicknesses, intercepting the irregularities, rendering… the material unstable, pervaded by a constant tension.
The work is part of an exploration of rhythm as a precarious balance between control and abandon. There is no narrative or recognizable figure, but rather a restrained vibration: a sound that cannot be heard, yet continues to resonate on the surface.
Giampiero Riccobello, born in Rome, works between Rome and Milan, using painting, sculpture, and unconventional materials, drawing on a background in art history. His style oscillates between informal abstraction and conceptual exploration, favoring processes of layering, subtraction, and material interventions on neutral surfaces, with earthy colors and unexpected accents. His works evoke an indirect human presence and transform common materials into symbols, conveying a sense of suspension, intimacy, and a reflection on memory and the passage of time.
