About this artwork
In this drawing, the figure, crouched and in a defensive position, embodies a mixture of vulnerability and determination. The omnipresent gas mask is both a symbol of protection and a reminder of the invisible threat that surrounds him. The posture suggests a moment of preparation or struggle, as if he were ready to face the unknown or to get up after a fall.
The rough strokes of the charcoal accentuate the intensity of the moment, conveying a… palpable urgency and tension. This work explores resistance to oppressive circumstances and the human capacity to adapt in order to survive.
