This painting is part of the Repetition series, which explores the repetitive gestures of the body used to regulate internal tension.
In Counting, a finger gently presses against the lips, almost automatically. The gesture is discreet, nearly imperceptible, yet charged with physical intensity. It evokes those micro-actions that the body instinctively repeats to calm itself, concentrate, or regain balance.
The smooth surface of the background… contrasts with the denser texture of the skin, where the pressure of the gesture becomes visible. The painting captures a suspended moment between control and impulse—a moment where the body counts, measures, and seeks its own rhythm.
Through this intimate scene, the work invites us to observe these silent movements that reveal the way in which the body dialogues with itself.
