This portrait depicts a man who has lived in my neighborhood for a long time. A familiar figure, sometimes unpredictable, sometimes fragile, he nevertheless always occupies his place with a singular dignity. We see him by turns silent, elated, or absent, but never withdrawn.
Seated on the steps, guitar in hand, he appears here in a moment of complete presence. The painting seeks to capture this tension between vulnerability and self-affirmation.… The thick, visible paint emphasizes the physicality of the body and clothing, while the direct gaze asserts an identity that demands neither pity nor justification.
