About this artwork
Antonio is a portrait that reflects a pivotal period in my practice. At that time, I was still finding my way between highly expressive painting and a more assertive realism. This tension can be felt in the visible scratches, the free brushstrokes in the background, and, in contrast, the meticulous attention to the face and hands.
I enjoyed experimenting, letting the materials emerge, while beginning to develop a more precise style. This painting… bears witness to that transition: a work where raw emotion and the search for structure meet.
