About this artwork
This painting is a scene Kwesi remembers about 13 years ago when he was working as a bouncer in pubs. Most weekends he worked in a particular pub closer to Piccadilly Circus, and he remembers after work at dawn on Saturdays on his way to the bus stop he saw this scene of lots of people returning from clubs, parties, pubs, restaurants going to board the bus, underground, taxis. Some were going round looking for pubs which were still opened. He enjoyed… the individual variety of colours of their attires which blended as the crowd moved to and fro. Also was the reflection of the crowd on the floor. Kwesi Bennett has tried to capture these moments on canvas and wants viewers to participate in this scenario imagining themselves as part of the crowd in the painting.
« I am an artist with a unique voice that has range, power, and discipline. »
Jacob Kwesi Bennett is an artist based in the United Kingdom whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in his native Ghana, Slovenia, the United States, and Italy. His main objective is to create something of beauty that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Bennett's figurative compositions are representational, rendered in a "stylized and idealized way". He weaves symbolism, allegory, indirect references, and esoteric purpose within each of his pieces.
