About this artwork
When I sit out on the porch,sounds that fill the air are many and sometimes very loud. Sirens come in twos and threes, motorcycles with unbridled exhaust, and trains. Those trains begin with nice far away horns, then cescendo into terrifically loud blasts.
Add to that the occasional helicopter or plane and then overlay all that with the rasping cicadas, birds and dogs, barking and you have a picture of our noisy world.
As I sit, I choose to think… of that racket as a symphony of noise, with the pizziccato of the insects, the snare frum of a passing Harley, all backed up by the deep horn section provided by the freight train.
When thought of that way, I begin to hear a kind of beauty in that clamor.
This painting celebrates loudness, either jarring or beautiful, depending on how we chiise to hear it.
