About this artwork
Still struggling under the weight of political corruption, animus and acrimony in this country, and this work is a reminder that everyday heroes come in all shapes and sizes.
As for the physicality of this work, this one was an emotional rollercoaster. I must have repainted the face five or 6 times just ripping, scraping and throwing paint as I fought the fear and embraced the unknown (and constantly drove my wife mad with all of this! :)). After… the final studio session I was exhausted but thrilled with color, the movement, the textures and most of all those perfect, amazing drips of thick paint. They create beautiful structure and detail within the work as well as stand alone like a painting within a painting. The work is also slightly off center which is something I do a lot. For some reason it reminds me of how George Baselitz would upend his canvases, and I get a lot of joy from it! Not sure why, but why question it I say!
« Either way, my message for the viewer is simple. Enjoy my work for its visual elements. Experience the excitement of the micro, macro, and then the subliminal. Rinse and repeat. »
Jon Parlangeli is a passionate American painter and sculptor who has widely exhibited his work throughout the U.S. Fascinated by the process of creation, he composes works that experiment with color and the physicality of paint. Parlangeli's creations stand out for their depth and tactility, appearing as explosions of bright color and unexpected shapes. Parlangeli additionally includes a representational balance of nature and humanity in his work, that merges with abstract elements to create a kind of historic bibliophile hidden in the paint.
