About this artwork
I poured my passion into this oil painting, capturing the ship gliding confidently through endless, shimmering waters under a vast, breath-catching sky. This piece radiates adventure, hope, and the unstoppable spirit of discovery that the Pilgrims showed when they undertook their voyage to America in 1620. Shown in the exhibition “Voyage of the Mayflower” at the Mayflower Museum in Plymouth UK, it was inspired by the sentence from the Captains Diary…

Julie Hammonds, a self-taught painter with a background as a PE teacher, works primarily in oils and acrylics, drawing daily inspiration from her sea-view studio in Plymouth.
