About this artwork
As we go through life, there are times when everyone else seems happy, and it feels like I'm the only one struggling. In those moments, it feels like I'm on the wrong path, always making different and wrong choices compared to others. This feeling arises because, while we understand and recognize our own situation from start to finish, we only see a small part of other people's lives. Those who seem to be doing well may, in fact, have similar thoughts… as mine. Moreover, the hardships that come in life take different forms for everyone. So, it might not be entirely wrong to think that I am the only one who is different. However, how we accept that difference becomes the key to overcoming the hardship. The choice is ours—whether to just lament the difference or to embrace the hardship in a new form and create another side of ourselves.
A painter by profession, Jungwan Chae boldly brings his military background to life. He employs anonymized, bald figures in suits to critique society, utilizing simple yet impactful beans to depict modern social realities. His art passionately expresses individual and collective dissatisfaction, stimulating dialogue about societal issues.
