This artistic interpretation of a symbolic pomegranate tree contains a triad of nature, art and mythology.
The tree, which here strives from the darkness of the earth into the light, is borrowed from a marble depiction on the exterior façade of the Milan Cathedral. Its light, sculptural structures imitate the white marble.
The upper third of the tree shows a real tree with a crown and an abundance of fruit. The leaves and the left branch have structures… from the relief. Two life-size apples are on the lower trunk.
The symbolic and global meaning of the pomegranate is far-reaching: from beauty, love, life, death to rebirth. We find it in antiquity, in Christianity, Buddhism and Judaism.
The multitude of its seeds represents abundance, fullness, and blessing. In Judaism, for example, its 613 seeds are seen as symbolic of the 613 prayers of the Torah.
