This work unfolds as a multi-layered landscape. The first glance is of a luminous horizon line against a silhouetted mountain range, but it quickly becomes clear: it's not just about what's depicted, but also about what lies beneath, protrudes, has been interrupted, or supplemented. Through incisions, backed elements, and collage fragments ranging from delicate to bold, a work emerges that extends over up to five tactile layers (in the central area,… where a small, clamped paper element can be moved or removed, or broken paper at the bottom left, offering glimpses of what lies beyond). Like a geological formation, this work speaks of time, change, intervention, and trace.
In this complexity, a dialogue arises between control and chance, composition and found object – between what remains and what can change at any time.
For Katharina Stegmeier, art is far more than decoration—it is both a message and a skill. As a child, she drew diaries before she could write, thus developing her creative expressiveness early on. Her works reflect the ambivalences of our time, social issues, and the complexity of life.
In her works, she combines intense expressiveness with calm reflection, structure with freedom. Contrasts play a central role, often symbolized by the colorful "counterpoint," which acts as an anchor to maintain the balance of her compositions and underscore their messages.
Katharina Stegmeier's works invite you to slowly immerse yourself in them. Those who embrace their rhythm discover worlds between layering and transparency, between formal fragments and emotional imprints—works that linger long after the viewer has turned away.
