About this artwork
In this work, daylight is not a tool but an active co-author. Warm sunlight fills the space, filters through blinds, and intertwines with textiles and reflective surfaces. I act as a director of light: using a mirror, I guide and redirect the sun’s rays, reshaping the image in deliberate directions. Light constructs the composition, carries color and emotion, and anchors the work in a specific, unrepeatable moment shaped by time and movement.
This… process approaches painting, replacing oil paint with sunlight and the brush with a mirror guided by my gaze and artistic intuition. The still life is also a personal return to my childhood with my grandma in the Siberian countryside. The warm light evokes long summer days, the scent of freshly baked bread, and the quiet kindness of my granny, whose life was deeply rooted in nature. The carnations beneath the window, the fabric recalling her curtains, and the sunlight itself form an image of origin-a memory shaped by place, earth and light.
I am inspired by life in all its manifestations — from a dewdrop on the grass to clouds dissolving on the horizon. My work draws on both the visible world and realities beyond immediate perception, where a simple detail can become the starting point for a new artwork.
Rooted in my Siberian birthplace and shaped by a classical art education in Russia, my practice reflects a deep connection with nature and a long-standing fascination with people. I work across painting, photography, video, and digital media, creating multilayered visual narratives that explore perception, presence, and transformation.
Method of working with a camera: Alongside planned projects, I photograph daily, guided by a selective and attentive gaze drawn to overlooked details that spark new ideas. These moments often initiate long-term projects, developed over time through carefully curated images from different places and periods.
