About this artwork
This picture was taken to mark the 30th anniversary of German reunification in 2020.
Symbolic of this is the connection of the Berlin government buildings on both banks of the Spree, where people used to lose their lives trying to cross the German-German border.
I painted directly in oil on the Crown Prince Bridge, designed by Santiago Calatrava, for several days. The weather kept changing, and the performance artist Ben Wagin finally helped me… secure the painting to the bridge, battling the wind. It was presented to State Secretary Monika Grütters on October 3rd at the Parliament of Trees in Berlin's government district.
