About this artwork
Like humans and birds, ants move around in an orderly but at the same time misteriuos way. They go about knowing exactly how to move, the same as humans in a crowd or a pack of birds in the sky. During the pandemic the artist depicted these ants as if they were respecting the social distance rule.

Luciana Mathioudakis is an Italian-Greek artist currently based in Brussels. She is an experienced artist who has spent more than two decades studying painting in various studios and workshops. While for the majority of her career Mathioudakis worked exclusively with oil and pastel paints, she recently switched to beeswax applied to panel, a system that dates back to ancient Greece. Her work explores how people orient themselves in various spaces, especially within crowds, as well as the broader theme of movement as a form of dialogue between people.
