About this artwork
At the center of the painting is a slightly distorted female nude, who raises a bird – a fragile symbol of life – very close to her face. Her gesture is intimate and ambivalent: it is not clear whether she seeks solace in it or bids farewell to it. The face is partially blurred, its contours dissolve, as if identity itself were fading. The proximity of the naked body and the bird presents passing away as a personal, inner experience of a fragile…
moment where life is still present – but already on the verge of disappearance. The distortion of the figure’s body is not grotesque, but rather lyrical, where the subtly shifted proportions show the slow deforming power of time. The powerful colors create tension, as if evoking the threatening presence of departure. The painting simultaneously presents a premonition of hope and loss, where passing away becomes visible not through a dramatic gesture, but as a quiet, personal experience.
