About this artwork
SCRIBUS is a sculpture made of solid oak, 130 x 41 x 7.5 cm, presented on a simple 25 x 50 cm steel base.
It is the sobriety of the lines that characterizes this sculpture. It is refined to keep only the essentials and let the imagination take hold.
He is a sage, a scribe perhaps, his body covered with eroded, worn writings. It is an open window on this timeless dimension so dear to the artist. A testimony of this passing time, of our history:… This history which made what we are.
The block of oak used for this sculpture is covered with cracks, scars, fractures. Through these traces, the story of his life comes to us.
SCRIBUS is a piece that calls out, with a strong and soft presence, serene and soothing. His head, black, is tilted, attentive, listening, ready for a dialogue to begin.

« Trying to reach the essential, in all its simplicity, humility and authenticity. Attempt to touch my own authenticity. »
Whether painting, sculpting or writing, Marc Laffolay strives for a direct, meditative and impulsive gesture.
He strives to banish any intervention of the mind, to privilege the spontaneous act, sincerity, without conscious reference to fashions and other trends.
For him, these are the conditions of authenticity.
