About this artwork
In "Silent Hollow" from the "Winterscapes" series, I am interested in a valley that transforms into a stage almost effortlessly. The snow-covered hollow opens up to the front, gently drawing the eye into its depths. To the left and right, the wintry slopes stand close together, their trees coated in frost, creating the effect of a forest curtain that frames and protects the scene.
The light remains subdued: the sky is bright, almost milky, illuminating… the frosty treetops without any harshness. In this muted brightness, subtle gradations emerge between white, gray, and the dark green of the spruce trees in the background. I am fascinated by this tranquility, where the landscape doesn't need to be spectacular to have an intense effect. The hollow becomes a silent focal point—a place where cold, light, and topography coalesce into a single, concentrated atmosphere.
