About this artwork
I translate an asparagus field into an abstract landscape. The parallel rows of tarpaulins become layered lines, their folds and notches creating a topography of light and shadow.
I'm interested in the tension between industrial geometry (tracks, edges, diagonals) and the organic traces of wind, moisture, and earth. In the narrow detail, the scale disappears—material becomes landscape, protective skin becomes surface. Thus, the image reveals the… beautiful yet ambivalent presence of plastic in agricultural space, capturing the traces of use, weather, and time.

Marcel van Beek works with photography, painting, and graphic design, drawing on his artistic background from his studies at the Alanus University of Art and Social Sciences. His technique combines pictorialist influences with romantic-symbolist imagery.
