About this artwork
The painting represents the beach on the seafront of Alghero, in Sardinia. The atmosphere of summer in Sardinia is evoked by some visual elements: the blinding brightness, the sharp shadows, the clear air and the vivid colors of the umbrellas and the bathers' accessories. The precision of the details and the characterization of the characters are the result of patient work to recompose the visual cues that the painter took on the spot and later reworked… in the studio. The painting has its own autonomy but can be combined with a similar painting with subjects represented from further away in order to accentuate the effect of depth. Together the two paintings form a diptych. The canvas is of the deep edge type, therefore rather thick and also painted laterally so that it can be exhibited even without a frame.

Marco Ronga is an experienced painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. He describes his works as fusing themes of the portrait and the human figure with suggestions of urban architecture and the landscape resuting in "portraits of places and landscapes of bodies". Ronga's painterly compositions are most often created with acrylics and oils on wood or canvas.
