About this artwork
The floating movement of a gondola that glides through the green waters of the Venice lagoon, holds a couple, a man and a woman. The gondola represents not only a means of transport, but also a symbol of travel through life, bringing with it stories and emotions. The execution technique is very particular. A flannel fabric was stretched and fixed on the artisanal frame. Subsequently, Egyptian cotton fabrics were primed with vinavil glue and chalk,… and glued onto the support so that the folds of the fabric simulated the waves of the water. The color was created using acrylic dyes, however layers of various substances were also applied to emphasize the material and tactile aspects of the pictorial surface.
« A mirror reflects a face and art reflects the soul. »
Marco Ronga is an experienced painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. He describes his works as fusing themes of the portrait and the human figure with suggestions of urban architecture and the landscape resuting in "portraits of places and landscapes of bodies". Ronga's painterly compositions are most often created with acrylics and oils on wood or canvas.
