About this artwork

Some artists have a pre-defined idea of what they want their painting to end up as. I do not. Quite the contrary as I paint with my emotions.

My creative process commences by cutting a piece of primed canvas off the 50-yard roll and pinning it to the wall of my studio. I then add Gesso and overlay texture. Still with a blank canvas I choose the palette of colours based on my mood of the day. I start painting with applying broad strokes to what will… become the background. I repeat this process with layers of different colours, shapes, texture and different strokes. With each layer the style of the painting takes shape. For some paintings, the creative process is uninterrupted until it is completed. Very often I feel the need to stop painting and let my ideas ripen. This can be for a few hours or a few days. I eventually get back to improving it to the point where it meets my satisfaction.

Once finished, examining the shapes and colors, the title of the painting comes to mind.

Marie Manon Corbeil began to paint amidst personal challenges:‘Between sadness and hope, there was art’. Realizing that life’s difficulties provided her with a new means of expression, Corbeil wants to convey a sense of joy within her contemporary abstract works. She draws forms and writes positive words under each canvas before beginning a piece. Employing large brushes to provoke unplanned strokes, she also uses her fingers to optimize the vibrant colors in her compositions.
