About this artwork
In Claim 182, I work with a large, open blue area that initially makes the pictorial space appear calm and expansive. This intense blue forms a kind of atmospheric background for me, against which the other colors can unfold freely.
Above and below this, I develop a dense structure of drops, lines, and splashes of red, yellow, green, and other shades of paint. The paint is poured, sprayed, and built up in multiple layers. During the process, I… deliberately allow it to react to gravity and the material, but I also intervene repeatedly to guide the process.
I am particularly interested in the interplay between the calm blue surface and the vibrant movement of color beneath it. This creates a balance between vastness and energy.
With Claim 182, I understand abstraction as an open process in which color becomes an independent, dynamic landscape.
