About this artwork
"Double Face" (2026) is a vibrant and hypnotic example of Massimo Rubbi's distinctive style. It is a generously sized acrylic on canvas that immediately captures the eye with its labyrinthine complexity. The title "Double Face" finds a direct correspondence in the horizontal division of the canvas. Rubbi breaks the composition into two mirrored but inverted halves: The upper part: Dominated by an intense, passionate red that serves as a backdrop… to an intricate tangle of black lines. The work you shared, titled "Double Face" (2026), is a vibrant and hypnotic example of Rubbi's distinctive style. The lower part: Where optical white takes over, offering a stark contrast and a sense of greater "breathing" or light, while maintaining the same graphic density.
This structure suggests the idea of opposites: day and night, conscious and unconscious, or simply the two sides of the same reality coexisting in dynamic equilibrium.
« "Every sign traced, and sound emitted by me, always arouses the same amazement and emotions as if all this were for the first time." »
Massimo Rubbi born in Ferrara in 1960 is an Italian artist who has undertaken a rather particular artistic path. After a high level musical education at the Conservatory of Ferrara, graduating he then continued his studies in composition and jazz music. This solid musical base has profoundly influenced his subsequent artistic career as a painter. he discovered a visceral passion for painting. This dual soul of his, musical and pictorial, is reflected in his works, often characterized by a strong expressiveness and a vibrant energy.
