About this artwork
St. Sebastian: A Modern Reinterpretation of a Classic
The work "S. Sebastiano" by Massimo Rubbi addresses a traditional iconographic theme of Christian art, namely the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian, but does so with a decidedly contemporary and personal style.
An explosion of colour and shapes
Unlike classical representations that focus on the realistic and dramatic aspect of martyrdom, Rubbi uses an abstract and symbolic language. The painting… is an explosion of bright colors and geometric shapes that intersect and overlap. The figure of Saint Sebastian, although recognizable through some symbolic elements such as arrows, is stylized and almost transfigured.
The painting "S. Sebastiano" is a perfect example of Massimo Rubbi's unique style, characterized by a strong visual impact, a bold use of color and a great ability to synthesize. His works are an invitation to reflection and personal interpretation.
« "Every sign traced, and sound emitted by me, always arouses the same amazement and emotions as if all this were for the first time." »
Massimo Rubbi born in Ferrara in 1960 is an Italian artist who has undertaken a rather particular artistic path. After a high level musical education at the Conservatory of Ferrara, graduating he then continued his studies in composition and jazz music. This solid musical base has profoundly influenced his subsequent artistic career as a painter. he discovered a visceral passion for painting. This dual soul of his, musical and pictorial, is reflected in his works, often characterized by a strong expressiveness and a vibrant energy.
