About this artwork
We naturally take our vision for granted, but I realized how useful it can be when I discovered the limitations of verbal communication. We assume that languages have been around forever.
The truth is, it began developing around 135,000 years ago. The world’s oldest art began 540,000 to 430,000 years ago.
My point is that we have visual experiences for which we have no words. I didn’t think about it at the time; I was making Pickup Truck, but I… used a digital palette knife and brush to smear the “wet paint” effect on the construction-site image. I find that following my instincts often allows me to make these impressions visible. This is how visual art can express sensations. As a result, I never know what kind of art I will make until it is complete. I intentionally leave my paintings unframed to reveal the sides of the painting.
