About this artwork
A new painting of Bars on Deansgae in the city of Manchester, entitled No. 3 because it is the third painting the artist has made of this same scene, the previous two now sold. Although based on the actual scene, it has been distorted and colours exaggerated for emotional effect. It is painted in acrylics and occasionally inks on compressed wooden fibreboard and was completed in late October 2023.

Michael Gutteridge is a British painter whose works have been extensively exhibited throughout the United Kingdom. His cityscapes combine diverse influences and involve spontaneous forms of distortion expressed via color, proportion, perspective, and an incongruous juxtaposition of styles. Often, Gutteridge endeavors to convey existentially disorientating feelings as well as other types of emotion and general sensual vibrancy. He creates using acrylics and ink on wood.
