This painting comes straight from my heart. I captured this moment during a trip in Dakar, Senegal—a scene so simple, yet so full of life and warmth. The girl’s expression, her posture, the sunlight dancing on her skin and the cloth—it all brought me back to the rhythms and textures of the place I once called home.
I was born in Cameroon and spent the first two decades of my life surrounded by colors, patterns, and the unfiltered energy of Africa.… That deep connection never left me, and in African Vibes, I wanted to bring a little of that spirit onto the canvas.
There’s strength and ease in her gesture, a kind of quiet pride that speaks louder than words. This piece is a celebration—of resilience, tradition, and the everyday beauty found in a fleeting moment.

Michel Devanakis is a contemporary figurative painter whose work is built around the idea of the threshold. A state of inner tension where opposing forces coexist without resolution.
Born to Greek parents in Cameroon and shaped by a life across different cultural environments, his work reflects a sustained interest in boundaries. Between visible and invisible, private and public, control and emergence.
After more than two decades in graphic design and illustration, he turned fully to painting in 2013. This background remains visible in the precision of his compositions and the clarity of his visual structure.
He develops each painting through a process that moves from digital construction to direct execution. The result is a controlled balance between intention and unpredictability, where each image holds tension without forcing resolution.
Based in Greece, his work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections across Europe.
